ARTIST BIO

As a young hobby artist who has recently graduated from the University of Victoria I am keen to develop my skills and portfolio. Having grown up on Vancouver Island, I took art lessons after school for many years. While completing the Advanced Placement Art program in high school I focused on painting portraits of people from cultures around the world fascinated by the uniqueness of each face and story. I used many photographs from family trips to Asia for inspiration. I have also always been passionate about environmental and social issues from pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss, to poverty, injustice, and the unequal distribution of wealth in the world. In 2017 I completed an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies and Geography and am looking forward to incorporating elements of what I studied into my art. Previous paintings such as Climate Injustice and Smokestacks are examples of paintings I’ve done with social or environmental issues in mind. More recently I've experimented with landscape painting, taking advantage of the beautiful places I've lived including Jasper, Vancouver Island, and Waterton Lakes National Park. While I enjoy colour, pattern, and the use of acrylic paint, I would now like to practice oil painting. I am keen to practice more landscape art as well as finding ways to express my passion for modern environmental and social issues, especially that of anthropogenic climate change.
